National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) has initiated the FASTag programme to simplify the process of toll tax deduction from private and commercial vehicles on national highways. As many as 400 toll plazas have implemented FASTag processing technology that aims to make the toll transaction process digital.
Under the ‘One Nation One FASTag’ initiative, every car travelling on national highways is mandated to install a FASTag sticker on their windshields by December 1, 2019 for easy authentication by toll booth personnel. FASTag are available both online and offline, and intend to make toll tax payment contactless and reduce congestion around toll booths.
Online application for FASTag

- Search for financial institutions authorised to provide FASTags and visit their official websites.
- Select the ‘Apply for FASTag’ option on the website’s homepage.

- Input your personal details such as name and address, along with the details of vehicles including the model and registration certificate (RC) of the vehicle.

Individuals wondering how to apply for FASTag offline can approach toll plaza kiosks or branches of financial institutions to purchase FASTags on a Point-of-sale (POS) basis. The maximum limit that a FASTag account is permitted to have depends on the category of KYC documents deposited while creating the account.
These accounts are as follows –
- Limited KYC FASTag account- Accounts which are opened with incomplete KYC document submissions are allowed to have a maximum balance of Rs.20,000.
- Full KYC FASTag account- FASTag accounts which are created by presenting all the necessary KYC documents can keep a maximum balance of Rs.1 lakh.
